The first season of Californication premiered August 13, 2007 and ending October 29, 2007. The season continued to Hank and the other main characters in the months before the planned marriage of Karen Bill, editor of Los Angeles. Hank is wallowing in deep self-hatred following the publication of a crazy little thing called love, which he perceives as an adaptation of the film under par popular even his most recent novel, God Hates Us All.
After picking up a younger woman in a bookstore, Hank learns that her daughter is actually 16 years old, Bill, Mia. Hank spends most of his time drinking and writing. Meanwhile, Mia continues to haunt Hank during his visits to his family, using the threat of exposing the rape of children to steal their stories for creative writing class. His father's death triggers a binge of alcohol fuel and a possible sexual encounter with Karen.
